Description
Join us on this remarkable one-day tour as we journey to the enchanting Landmannalaugar valley, nestled at the heart of Iceland's highlands. The name Landmannalaugar, which translates to 'the people's pools,' perfectly captures the essence of this extraordinary destination.
Our adventure begins with a scenic route through the Þjórsádalur Valley, named after the Þjórsá River, where nature unveils a captivating landscape. Sandy lava fields, meandering rivers, birch woodlands, peculiar rock formations, and cascading waterfalls paint a picturesque canvas before our eyes.
Our initial stop brings us to Hjálparfoss, affectionately known as the 'Help waterfall,' a true gem among Iceland's waterfalls. Here, the last vestiges of greenery greet us before we transition into the mesmerizing highlands, where multi-colored rhyolite mountains await. These kaleidoscopic peaks boast hues of pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black, and white sands, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Continuing our journey, we arrive at the 'pearls of the highlands,' the captivating Ljótipollur, an explosion crater lake. Despite its name, which translates as 'Ugly puddle,' its crimson crater walls offer a sight of striking beauty that will undoubtedly inspire your camera.
Our ultimate destination is the renowned Landmannalaugar, nestled within the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. This surreal landscape is a haven for hikers, featuring popular routes like the Laugavegur trail, leading to the stunning Þórsmörk, and Hellismannaleið, known as 'The cave man route.' Here, you can soak in the natural hot springs of the Landmannalaugar oasis or take a leisurely stroll through the area. Don't forget to pack your swimsuit and a towel if you fancy a geothermal bath.
From the soothing warmth of Landmannalaugar's pools, we embark on an ascent to Mount Hekla, Iceland's queen of active volcanoes. Our specially modified jeeps carry us up to a height of 950 meters on the volcano's slopes, offering breathtaking panoramic views in every direction.
As this is a full day of exploration, there's a chance that, on the darkest winter days, you may witness the enchanting Northern lights as the tour comes to a close, adding an extra touch of magic to your unforgettable adventure.
